About
Hi
I’m Peter Scargill and I’m the owner of an iPad2 and an iPhone, currently the 3GS (until the contract runs out). I’ve had the phone since it first came out and the original iPad I had shipped from the USA in April 2010 when they first appeared on the market – the new one I bought on the UK release day over here in the UK. I use both daily, I experiment in-depth with the various Apps and I’m confident my experience of these devices is as good as the best. Over the months I’ve been swaying back and forth, wondering if the Android devices would give IOS a run for it’s money but the fact is that by mid-March 2011 at least, there has been nothing like what you might describe as an iPad-killer. Of course those who’ve bought Android devices will defend them and the many hopeful manufacturers and sellers of these devices will no doubt say anything to ensure market share – but despite their (perhaps) being better hardware out there, what they are all missing is their own operating system and that’s where the i-Devices score. The new price-drops on the original iPad should put a dent in Tab sales!
With no compatibility issues with different platforms, Apps written for one iPhone will work in any iPhone and they just keep getting better and better. As I write this, Skype has been upgraded to handle video on the iPhone/iPad2 – though no iPad-specific version yet – no other mobile device has this as yet which for some people including myself gives a very BIG thumbs up to Apple – I was pondering my next phone – now that argument is over, it’ll be the iPhone 5 so I can make proper use of video conferencing – the only thing that could possible change my mind would be the implementation of ooVoo multimedia on another platform – but even then, right now there are no decent PDF readers for mobile devices to remotely TOUCH Goodreader – and the list goes on in other areas… Android users have so much catching up to do and there is no sign of Apple and their legions of Apps writers slowing down.
For me the next stage would be Apple TV compatibility for all of my relevant Apps (and Skype would be a great start). One things for sure, the consumer is the winner in this battle as the value for money just keeps getting better and better.
